Fun Personalized Notecards

I have so much fun coming up with creative projects and posts for the Family Economics section of the SC Johnson corporate website. The latest is a simple craft for making personalized stationery notecards using pages from discarded books and your sewing machine. Of course, hand stitching would work well, too! I find the books at a local thrift store or occasionally at a Friends of the Library sale. For these notecards, I added a fun touch- faux apparel tags. Check out the d.i.y. notecard post HERE.

Deer, Friends and Ampersands: Free Typographic Clip Art

Last February, I teamed up with another local blogger to travel to Blissdom10 in Nashville. We’d never met in person until then, but became fast friends as we ventured to our first blog conference together and had an incredibly memorable time. Since then, our friendship has grown and flourished in so many wonderful ways. Just last Saturday, we dined together with our families for the first time. Not only did we have a FANTASTIC evening, but she brought me a selection of vintage and rare advertising & typography books- as she usually does when we get together since one of the many hats she wears includes that of a bookseller! She knows how much I appreciate those books that I normally have to search many months on Ebay for. She also brought to me the most beautiful hostess gift ever, a vintage mercury glass deer for my deer collection- breathtaking. How lovely is that?!
My special friend is Selena Cate aka: Apron Thrift Girl. You may have read me mention her before and you absolutely have to check out her blog for expert advice in reselling & thrifting, as well as fun and family and unique decorating.

So, thanks to Selena, I’m sharing free typographic clip-art over on my design blog today, scanned and modified from one of the vintage books she gifted. They are the word “THE’ in many forms as well as a multitude of ampersands.Thank you, Selena!

Back to School Pencil Fun!

I have a new back-to-school project posting over at SC Johnson’s Family Economics. See how easy it is to add a little fun to your kids’ day.For the older sect, customizing colorful pencils with names is a real winner! Be sure to pick up extra pencils when you’re shopping for school supplies, or grab some other tall items for embellishing vases as I shared in my other SCJ post! (The cute little leather belt simulating an old book strap and hiding the rubber bands is actually taken from an old torn-up camera case I found.)
