TGIF: Leapfrog

Here’s a fun little gif animation I created in Photoshop from a series of scanned 1897 motion photographs by Eadweard Muybridge.

The way I see it, that’s us jumping over the week heading into the weekend– We made it! It’s going to be a very busy Saturday for the Holdens: One Quinceañera, three high school graduation celebrations, and one funeral. On Sunday, I’ll be heading to the Alameda Flea Market for a day of shopping for fun supplies for my Art Is You class. What are your weekend plans?

Vacation Prize Ribbon Rosette and Free Printable

Cleaning out my studio I came across this rosette I crafted earlier this year to commemorate our wonderful family vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when the kids were little. I plan to shadow-box it (eventually!) I don’t have a photo tutorial to share, just inspiration, notes and a free printable.

If you’ve ever vacationed in beautiful Mexico you can probably appreciate the kitchy style of my project. For the rosette petals I used beautiful woven trim pulled from a vintage skirt, accented with red glitter ribbon. The beads are from a bracelet I had. I found the woven paper at Paper-Source, trimmed round with pinking shears and placed it atop red glitter cardstock. I printed and adhered to cardstock shot of the kids, and trimmed it into a centerpiece circle. The MEXICO sticker  from Jolee’s.The ribbon tails are meant to resemble film strips. I designed the strips and digitally reduced and cropped my photos to 1″ x 1.5″ to fit within the frames and placed them within using Adobe Illustrator. With the free printable below, you can do the same with Photoshop and possibly other image editing software, or trimmed out by hand. Once the sheet was printed out, I made it shiny by laminating it with clear contact paper, burnishing well to eliminate the fogging effect, and trimmed out the strips individually.Click on the image below for the film strip PDF printable for use in any of your crafts!

The Motto Board

Sometimes just a few words can make a big difference- engraved, scrawled, chalked, or printed. I wrote a post about creating a motto board over at SC Johnson Family Economics. I even included a few starter quotes and phrases. If you can add to that list, please do so in the comment section of the SCJ post! I would LOVE to have more mottos for my board at home.

Even our die hard San Francisco Giants fan/daughter, Jamie, has a motto board in her bedroom!
