Country Living: Reader’s Digest Book Storage Boxes

Have you picked up the July/August issue of Country Living? I always adore the red, white and blue summer issues!

I’ve shared before some fun projects using the insides and outsides of old Reader’s Digest books. Well, here’s one of my favorites as featured in the CL idea notebook on page 52 of this latest issue, book storage boxes!I cut and assembled box sides from one book’s patterned cover and glued them into the cover section of another. You can create paper tape to cover raw box edges by splicing long, narrow lengths of paper from the remaining inside cover of the cut book and peeling it away into thin paper sections to glue to the edges, or use patterned or solid washi tape. My full instructions are in the current magazine or online.

Here are some of my close-up shots of the boxes:If you craft these or other boxes, you might like to label them!

Elmer’s 1st Day App

Yesterday, as the Official Sponsor of the 1st Day of School™,  Elmer’s launched a free mobile phone app and website to help parents preserve those “1st Day” moments year after year.

Using the Elmer’s 1st Day app and website, parents can snap, organize and share photos of those milestone moments. Additionally, with each photo uploaded, Elmer’s, with the Kids In Need Foundation, a non-profit that provides school supplies to needy children, will donate a school supplies to students in need.

I could hardly wait to get started, beginning with this darling first day of school shot taken by a teacher when the kids (now in high school) were just little bits in elementary. (Can you tell I’d just returned from a trip to New York?)Head over to the Elmer’s 1st Day app and website to begin organizing your kiddos before school starts this year!
