Vacation Photos: Vintage Signage

I realize most vacationers at amusement parks fill their camera chip with shots of their beloved family. But the designer in me was found wandering around Silver Dollar City, Branson today taking photos over everyone’s head at the fantastic sign artwork everywhere. So in lieu of sharing with you photos of my children on rides or posing with hillbillies, I can’t help but share some cool vintage-style art. I hope you enjoy a little forgotten-art eye-candy.

If you enjoyed these signs, you’ll love one of my favorite font sites where I’ve purchased some of my favorite typefaces, Letterhead Fonts– check them out!

Espresso Brownies- Guest Blogger Post

Ahh, TidyMom. Leave it to her to come up with such a delicious guest blog post for my vacation week. When you’re done drooling over the deliciousness of this post, be sure to click over to her blog! She has a very cool giveaway going on right now! Thanks a million TidyMom!

When Cathe asked me if I wanted to write a guest post on her blog, I thought it sounded like fun! Then I realized, what the heck am I thinking, I’m not nearly as artistic and creative as Cathe, what could little ’ole ME possible have to add to Just Something I Made? It’s funny, almost every day I find a million things to babble about on my own blog, but when it comes to a blogging REQUEST, I freeze.

So I started thinking, what am I passionate about? I should write about that. Then it hit me…. I’m passionate about baking! I love to bake, not real fancy desserts, but just easy yummy goodies that my family and friends love. When I mentioned a recipe to Cathe, she thought it was a great idea because she never posts recipes. But Cathe is VERY creative, so I’m going to post an unbelievably EASY treat that will knock your socks off AND show you how we wrapped it up as a special delight that anyone would love to receive!

Espresso Brownies

1 prepared Brownie Mix ( I use the Ghirardelli Double Chocolate Brownie Mix)
1 extra egg
1 teaspoon of espresso powder (I just used regular espresso found in the coffee aisle)
powdered sugar

Antique jello molds (I found mine on ebay really cheap)

Combine brownies according to the box, and add an extra egg and espresso powder and start mixing.

Spray jello molds VERY well with cooking spray.

Fill each mold about 1/2 way.

Bake about 25 to 30 minutes or until brownie starts to pull from side of pan, cracks start to appear in surface and center is almost set. (Toothpick inserted in center will be dirty, but not wet.)

Cool about 10 minutes and then remove from pans; cool completely on wire rack.

garnish with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Now delicious tastes a LOT better when it’s CUTE right? So now you need a cute presentation if you ‘d like to give a few as gifts .

We made these for a birthday my oldest daughter took to work. We took a cellophane bag, put some crinkled pink paper in the bottom, and placed one brownie on top, tied the bag shut with some cute ribbon. Next time I’d love to make some cute tags for them (I bet Cathe could come up with some BEAUTIFUL tags)………..wah-lah……..now you have an adorable treat!!

Whew……that wasn’t so bad now was it?! LOL I want to thank Cathe for inviting me! And feel free to visit me over at my blog, TidyMom anytime, I have lots of other recipes I have shared along with all of my other ramblings. And remember, everyone LOVES comments!

Business Card Holder- Guest Blogger Post

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. Our kids woke up in our tiny hotel room by the airport to suitcases peppered with plastic Easter eggs full of goodies. We caught our 6am flight and eventually -by plane, train and automobile- reached our destination last night at the resort in Branson, Mo. (Ok, no train, but we saw one while driving.) Big thanks to Tidy Mom for some great Branson activity recommendations!

Today’s post is a fun Business card holder tutorial by Leah Radke of Green Bee. I only recently discovered her blog and simply love it. Super fresh and creative! And you can get a PDF version of her business card holder tutorial for download there. Check it out and be sure to shop her ETSY store!

BUSINESS CARD HOLDER

What you’ll need:

· Exterior fabric
· Interior fabric
· Flannel for the lining
· 1 sew-on snap
· Buttons, scraps of lace,
ribbon, rick-rack,
embroidery floss, etc.

1. Cut all three fabrics 4 ¾” wide x 9 ½” long. Stack in this order: flannel lining; interior fabric, right side up; and
exterior fabric, right side down.

2. Pin all three layers together. With a ¼” seam allowance, sew around all four sides, starting on a long side and
leaving a 2” opening for turning, backstitching at each end. Trim corners, turn and press.

3. Fold both short ends in toward the center, so the
pockets measure about 1 ¾” deep. Press and pin in place.

4. Top stitch along the top and bottom edges, sewing the pockets down and sewing over the hole from turning.

5. Find the center of the pocket and position the ball
portion of the snap. Sew on. Close the business card holder and press the snap into the opposite side’s fabric,
creating a little mark for the socket portion of the snap. Position and sew that one on as well.

6. Now decorate it.. sew on trims, buttons, stamp images on the fabric, do some embroidery.. whatever you’d like.
Thank you for your guest post, Leah!!
