Beans, Beans, The Magical Fruit

Dried white beans are great for so many display purposes. I just love their satin smooth, creamy vintage white appearance. They’re cheap and so easy to work with for both decorative and practical purposes.
I use Large Lima Beans, Great Northern Beans, and Small White Beans from the grocery store.

You can create a business card holder from pretty much any small dish.

Fill vintage ironstone pottery with beans and tuck with photos.

I even tucked a sweet little photo of my dear late Aunt Erma in a tiny jar. She always reminded me a bit of Betty Crocker.
Organize your desk necessities in piles of beans, they hold almost anything!
One of my favorite displays is the one that holds pieces of my new personalized stationery set by Whisker Graphics!

Domesticity

Growing up it would always irk me if one of my sisters got something and I didn’t. It still irks me. My sister, Jennifer, got the domestic gene. I didn’t.
This is a woman that on any given day has dual crock pots going by 6am in preparation for that night’s dinner. My family is lucky if I even give dinner a first thought before 5pm. Unfortunately, Jennifer lives almost 2000 miles away, or possibly some of her homemaking gifts would have rubbed off on me by now. And you’d love visiting her home, the word cozy would be a gross understatement. It’s a retreat where all burdens slide from your shoulders the second you walk in the door as she hands you fresh brewed ice tea in a mason jar-turned drinking glass and you slide into the couch wrapping yourself in one of many vintage quilts she collects (and actually uses) to watch an old black and white movie all the while sensing the aroma of some kind of amazing just-like-mom-used-to-make casserole baking in the oven.

Today on her blog she’s sharing the best tips for laundry- something I avoid until the last possible minute, she’s turned into an art. Her post is part of an ongoing journal of love to her daughters. So please visit her for some great domestic inspiration while I go through my linen closet and start minimizing (as she suggests!)

Before and After: Metal Cabinet

Don’t you just love before & afters!
Here’s a fun metal file cabinet I found thrifting last week. A little Simple-Green rub-down, add one can of Rust-oleum Apple Green spray paint and now I’ve got a perfect little file box to hold my small amount of folders in my tiny studio! And I appreciate anything metal for attaching magnets.
A while back I had some fun results with Rust-oleum’s Aqua spray paint and a library cabinet {LINK}.

Need more before & after fixes? Check out my favorite place for just that {HERE!}

Now, go paint something!
